Hitting the Slope

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

Hit the indoor slopes tonight in Shenzhen, China. All I got is a bruised back, an aching back and a bruised ego. For more details check out my Facebook Album.

My ego is too bruised to blog an entire story.

Menu Monday: Shanghai Edition

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Been up in Shanghai the past couple of days, haven’t been able to blog. So here’s Menu Monday.

- This trip i’ve been sitting next to some interesting people. On the flight up, sat next to a bunch of country ladies.. Loud, and sadly a bit rude. On they way back sat next to a huge fat indian guy. His arm was all over my side of the armrest. On the bus back to my apartment, sat next to a gangsta talking albino.

- Shanghai ain’t that bad, but it takes some tough skin to get used to it and live there. And internet sucks.

- Got to play on the 360 this past week, i really miss having an xbox around.

- Starbucks girl downstairs from where Li lives said it’s really sweet talking to me. I love Starbucks.

- If you want to go cheap in Shanghai it’s insanely. Two large bowls of noodles between Li and I, 12 RMB. A breakfast pancake 1 RMB. My Grande Latte was more expensive than all that stuff combined.

Keeping it short these days. I find being terse is quite enjoyable.

- Looks likely I’ll be heading up to Shanghai Wednesday for a short trip. And then another trip again the following weekend.

- I’ve fallen in love with the music of Amos Lee. I suggest everyone give it a try. It’s amazing.

- I finished my application this past week for a Master’s program in Hong Kong. There could be a potentially tough decision a couple of months from now that could decide the next 3-4 years of my life.

This past weekend, second straight week I had a friend visiting. Good stuff, starting to have a few regulars i spend time with here. No substitute for regulars.

- Hopefully Shanghai this week. Starting to feel antsy again.

- I’m very comfortable traveling in and out of China now. Maybe I’m finally turning into a local.

- I think this week I’ve realized I love Hong Kong. It’s given me a feeling and ambiance I’ve been looking for. Now I only wish there were a bigger industry here for what I do.

What else I miss

The one thing that’s hard to find in Hong Kong is sports. Easy to find sports fashion or actually anything fashionable is easy to find. However it’s tough getting tennis courts, basket-ball courts, you name it. Even worse is golf. I’m not even talking about a golf course, I mean a driving range. Back in LA i would easily be able to seek solitude by grabbing a basket of tennis balls and serve till my arm tires, or hit the range and spend an hour or two working on my swing. However the only alone time I’ve found is when I wear a cap with my headphones while in a subway. But even at this point, I can feel other people look at me.

Shanghai is back

In the picture. Guess it was never out of the picture. We’ll see how it goes. BTW Stephen, I think something similar is still. But I’ll tell you when you come visit.
