Menu Monday: Rainy Days

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Rainy Days and Mondays always gets me down. Funny how it seems I always wind up right here. Same ol’ blog.

- This past week met up with my friend Gillian, had good times just chilling out. Great thing was she was willing to try random ass Pizza Hut and HK Mexican Food with me. Pizza Hut was actually not bad. Mexican Food however, was a unanimous decision by 4 LA people that it was missing something. I’m sure it’s the Cumin, Cilantro.

- I really miss cooking Pesto, however I can’t seem to find a food processor in Hong Kong and the blender i have at home just tears everything up. Not good pesto.

- I should be traveling up to Shanghai any moment this week. Good thing is my friend Calvin Po Chan will probably be coming along just to hang out. However I have someone I need to see before I head up to Shanghai.

- This past weekend was Hong Kong Seven, rugby. I don’t want Rugby, couldn’t get into the festivities, but I could see how drunk people were.

Funny Stories

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Told to Cheryl - “funny stories tho… i’ve had multiple people, family members, friends, and neighbor restaurant owners asking if i would like to be introduced to their daughter, cousin or banker”

True story, as true as running into a high school friend in We Ho…. true stories..

Menu Monday: Contemplating Choices

Monday, March 24th, 2008

I’ve always found the idea of choices very interesting. Is it better to choose or waiting to be chosen? I don’t know what my answer is. What’s yours?

- Been playing ALOT of tennis. The retiree’s may have to retire from tennis for a couple of days. But it’s been really fun playing with old guys. None of the competition pressure when I was younger. Just good ol’ fun. (Pun Intended)

- My friend Gill is coming to visit this week. Excited to see another familiar face. Cue cheers music……(Some times you wannna go..)

- Hung out with a friend and a bunch of people i met online this weekend. Got f-ing crazy drunk because of this damn british guy…. Not what you think. But damn crazy drunk euros are hard to get away from. Basically i got home at 6AM.

- Aussies rock…btw… the Australian currency is going up while American dollar is going down.

Converse on hold.

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

I’ve decided to put my Converse stories on hold for now. Seems like I’ve been trying too hard to generate more stories but nothing good has been coming up. So for now, now more Converse stories.

The value of Video Chat

Tuesday, March 18th, 2008

Just spent a couple hours video chatting with my buddies Mike Cha and Andy Choi. I finally understand the value. Got to see people I haven’t seen in awhile. Spent some good face to face time passing old school stupid jokes. So if any of you want to do a chat session, I’m totally up for it.

Menu Monday: Spicy Tapatio Edition

Monday, March 17th, 2008

This weeks menu monday is spicy because first, I was craving Tapatio so I bought some fried chicken at Mcdonald’s just so I can use some Tapatio. Second, it’s a big list.

- Got back from Shanghai Saturday and experienced a couple of firsts during the trip, my first extreme proximity to a dude picking his nose… He was right next to me… First time I was travel in China alone. Not that scary. Just pop on my Nano and just blitz through everyone. First job session in China, enjoyable. First experience with blocked websites, couldn’t visit any blogs while in China.

- Maybe I’m trying to hard to complete my Converse trilogy. Thought I had a good Girl in Black Converse story, however as I looked at it further, it’s only good enough for an epilogue. But I am open to suggestions on how to complete the trilogy. Please help if you’ve got a good idea.

- Last week there were two crazy’s going on, crazy influenza which has taken the life of two children. Sad story. And a Lotto craze. Totally opposite spectrum on the priority list.

- Two family stories this week to talk about. First, my aunt’s granddaughter apparently became possessed or started seeing things after playing a pen version of Ouija. Got sent into the Psych ward for a couple of days. Only my family.

- Second, my Uncle Linda in New York passed away. My mom didn’t tell me until I got back from Shanghai. She was afraid it would disrupt my work. Guess the 27 going on 35 never convinces them. However he’s always been one of the Uncle’s I liked. He will be buried as Linda, a woman, something he identified himself with when he was alive. R.I.P. However it’s been rough on my mom, losing two siblings within a month. Which reminds, Elissa has be kind enough to take the tough role of saying “Later Bitches” to all of you when I die. Thank you Elissa, can’t tell you how much I miss you and the crazy busy hours we had at DirecTV. We really got to become good friends with all the work we had. Glad Lawson is on the same floor now, you have someone else to be busy with.

- Been having a resurgent cough, no clue where it came from. Maybe my cousin Shirley. Her cough exacerbated to the point where she needed to go to the hospital. ME PRAY FOR HER NOW…. unfortunately I’m agnostic so the big fella or fellaette probably won’t answer. But hope she gets better soon, she’s been nothing but the best to me, my big sis in Hong Kong.

- A lot of people have Easter Friday off here in HK. I got invited to a tennis party with a bunch of retiree’s. On this pace, I’ll be 28 moving on 45 by December 2nd.

- The sound designer working on Endwar is a big fan of Jay Chou. Looking forward to going Karaoke with him and tear up the joint. BTW he’s white.

- Been finding a lot of pretty girls who work in retail…..

My Bublé Night

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

Heading north, thirty thousand miles up in the air, it certainly reminds me of “Home”. A brief delay at the terminal sends a hundred memories of the past four months. A brief time when I was comfortable and struggling with the decision, but I was “Feeling Good”.

Four months ago, I began asking myself “Quando, Quando, Quando”? When will the day come, “Quando, Quando, Quando”? And when that day came, will I tell myself “I’ve got the World on a String”? Or will “Home” be “Always On My Mind”? You can “Call Me Irresponsible” with the way I approached things. But ‘You Don’t Know Me”. No one knew me. “That’s Life”.

Thirty thousand miles up in the air, it feels like four months to this day. It feels like Chicago to San Francisco; San Francisco to Long Beach. Another airplane, another sunny place, I’m lucky I know but I want to feel “Home”. To all my friends back “Home”, My Bublé Night.

Girl in White Converse

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Every two weeks, there’s a chance, but there’s no guarantee. Just a glimpse whenever I walk by, but every two weeks there’s a chance, but no guarantee. Girl in White Converse, I know your name. People call you “Ah Boh”, it means precious or treasure. I know. But my soundtrack is by Clazziquai Project “ You Never Know”.

You are trendy, I know. The first time I saw you, your hair was permed. But the memory I carry is never repeated. Your hair has changed; it’s straight and silky, while you wear perfectly fit jeans. Girl in white Converse, you are fashionable I know.

Your smile is adoring, I know. Those who see you are glad to return the favor. They step through the store and radiate in return. Girl in White converse, this you know.

You’re polite, I know. You notice an old lady struggle off her seat. Quickly abandoning your meal, you move over and provide aid. She thanks you. You obligate in your reply. Girl in White Converse, you know you are polite. I know.

You ask me if my head itches. I mumble a reply. My language skills have deteriorated I know. Girl in White Converse, this you know. But you do not laugh, you understand with your sympathizing eyes. You understand, I know.

Girl in White Converse, your smile is radiating. You are polite. You are stylish. You work at the hair salon. Every two weeks, there’s a chance I get to see you but there’s no guarantee. Every two weeks, there’s a chance I can feel the soft touch of your hands run through my hair, but there’s no guarantee. I would like to tell you, I would like you to know. By my soundtrack is “You Never Know”, “Ah boh”.

Menu Monday

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

After a long weekend of family events, glad to get back to the normal life of hoping for something exciting to happen. Yup doesn’t make sense, but here goes the list.

- I’ve really been craving a burger these past two weeks, and a burrito, and some good ol’ omelette.

- Starbucks has this thing about hiring the most adorable nerdy girls. Gives me extra incentives to head to a Starbucks. Personally I think they’re out to get my money, feeding my coffee addiction while having an adorable nerdy girl serve it to me. That is just wrong.

- I’ve had a few request for more romance blogs and people, I know it’s funny to laugh at my expense but it’s a lot of pressure people. I’ll try to see if I can personally generate more romance stories. I’ll try… I’ll try…

The buck stops at the Lotto

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

At my aunt’s funeral, everyone received a white envelope known as a “Gut yee”. Inside there’s a piece of tissue, a piece of candy and a buck. Customs and superstitions dictate that you do not bring any of these items home. They serve to brighten the luck or your taste bud, ward off evil items and also provide some form of wealth. Sure you can just quickly swallow the candy, then blow your nose, but then what do you do with the dollar?

One Hong Kong dollar, is about 17 cents US. Well here comes the collective power of the people, we threw in all our bucks and bought a lottery ticket. At this point everyone proceeds to say hopefully my aunt has blessed our ticket and make us rich. However I’m more inclined to believe my aunt has given us a reason to talk and have fun together. With the lottery ticket, we’ve just bought our family a good couple of hours of fun.
